Howard’s Folly Wine is a boutique winery from the Alentejo region of Portugal. Howard Bilton, co-founder is an enthusiastic wine lover and admirer of Portugal’s wines especially from the Alentejo region.
In 2002 he joined forces with David Baverstock to create wines that express the best characteristics of the terroir and grape varietals. David Baverstock,wine marker and co-founder, is an Australian by nationality but long time Portuguese resident who is credited with revolutionizing the Portuguese wine industry by introducing new world techniques to old world material. David has decades of experience, technical skill & creativity. He is celebrated as the pioneer of modern winemaking in Portugal and is the only non-Portuguese national to win Winemaker of the Year – not once, but twice – in 2013 and 2015.
Based deep in the beautiful Portalegre, the north east of the Alentejo on the granite foothills of the São Mamede mountains, the winery prides themselves to produce award winning wines from unique blends of carefully selected local grape varieties.
The main vineyard is 7 hectares of 20-25 year old vines in Portalegre, where the climate is cooler, thus allowing the winery to make wines with superior freshness, elegance and finesse.
