Description

“This is easy and friendly, with a fresh and fruity feel. The fruit is vivid and nicely supported by the wine’s freshness. Or, to put it another way, it is flat-out delicious. This doesn’t have a lot of concentration or power, but feel free to dive in while it is young. It will certainly hold nicely for several years, and at the moment, it should exceed expectations.” Mark Squires from Robert Parker Wine Advocate

A little about the winery…

Malhadinha Nova is a typical Alentejo family estate situated in Albernoa, a small village ln the heart of ‘Baixo’ Alentejo. It is a place of freedom and endless horizons. Since 1998, the family’s passion and commitment have transformed a long-abandoned land into fields that give life to genuine, high-quality Alentejo produce.

The perfect weather conditions of the Alentejo, the schist-based soils, the well-drained slopes of the property as well as the carefully selected grape varieties – Touriga Nacional, Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Miuda, Baga, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah (varieties of red grapes) and Arinto, Roupeiro, Antão Vaz, Alvarinho, Verdelho, Viognier and Petit Manseng (varieties of white grapes) – make up the Terroir of Malhadinha Nova with unique conditions for producing wines with unique character and great quality. The cellar was built from scratch and as a result of the inclination of the terrain, the vinification process occurs due to the force of gravity. The Adega da Malhadinha was inaugurated in 2003, the year of its first harvest. The layout was designed in accordance with oenological objectives.

The Adega da Malhadinha has unique conditions favorable to the creation of distinctive and high-quality wines. It is situated only a few meters from the vineyard. Vinification occurs in a traditional manner in mills. Thanks to the cellar’s distinctive level structure, the whole process occurs due to the force of gravity thus avoiding the use of pumps capable of removing much of the desired quality. The grapes are received in small 12 kg boxes and emptied directly into modern refrigerated vats, where the treading combines the traditional methods of winemaking and the use of technology in order to obtain the full potential Mother nature gave the grapes in the vineyard. The barrel cellar is dug several meters deep into the hillside and provides excellent conditions for the ageing process of the wine.
